Let The Experiment Begin

None of us actually knows what the result of this collaborative experiment will be. It’s like putting “local food” through a “stress test.” How sturdy are our local food systems? What needs to be adjusted, fixed, changed for us to run on local energy for even 10% of our nourishment? Are different parts of the country or world in different states of disrepair? Who is getting it right and what can we learn?

This is important data. At the end of the Challenge you’ll get a link to a survey that will gather and analyze our experiences. We’ll send out a press release with our findings. This information will help each of us help build a healthy local food system, and show us where change needs to happen so that everyone can have access to fresh, local and fair food.

The local food movement is a positive revolution. It’s gives us an empowered place to stand as we work to change the parts of the industrial corporate food system that are toxic to our health, well-being, communities and democracy. While our individual efforts may seem small compared to the enormity of the task, our personal experiments will open our eyes, ground us in our food home and probably motivate us to work for change.
